What visitors say
It is indeed NOT the oldest physical church building in Alabama. The Christ Church Cathedral at 311 Tunstall St is the oldest continuously operational church in Alabama. The original Stone St Baptist Church was torn down and rebuilt during the great depression. However, it could be the oldest congregation, Christ's church isn't a building its a body of believers. I know a few folks who call Stone Street Baptist Church their home. What a great church! So rich in history. I actually spoke there from the pulpit back in the '70s. The assistant pastor was Isreal Lewis III and he asked me to talk to the congregation. I felt like time washed over me when I was talking. All the giant Oaks along Government Street were whispering what they saw over hundreds of years. It was such a moving experience. This church has a special place in my heart. I'll not rate it anything but a 5. My Mom n law' church; its ok Oldest Church in Alabama. Wonderful place of worship
