Love this church after looking for the best fit for my all family! (Different ages) we are so happy to find New City Church. People friendly and caring. Great sermón based in the Word of God. Very active church for all ages! Like many people, I grew up in the Christian faith. But then for nearly 15 years, I stopped believing and, if I'm honest, I became resentful toward Christianity. A few years ago, I found myself tumbling down a rabbit hole of Christian apologetics and the historical evidence surrounding the Bible. What began as an intellectual pursuit became something far more personal. Little did I know God had a plan that would completely change the course of my life, He wrapped his loving arms around me and gave me a whole new level of understanding that I couldn't see before. The next step was finding a church. I approached it with caution. I even questioned whether modern church institutions were truly biblical. Over the course of 8 months, I went to three different churches. Then I came across New City in a reddit forum, and I've now been attending for about a year. Without exaggeration, it is the best church I've ever been part of. I've come to realize just how essential a Bible based church is, especially in a time when many are reshaping Scripture to fit the culture or rejecting the Gospel altogether. The Pastor(s) teach directly out of The Bible, they do it in series format that allow you to dive deeper into the text instead of just skimming the surface. They also do an excellent job of acknowledging cultural challenges without allowing it to overshadow the Gospel. If you're looking for a church that is honest, authentic, and firmly rooted in the Bible, I wholeheartedly recommend New City. It has been an incredible blessing in my life, and I'm deeply grateful God led me here! So many churches I have been to water down God’s word trying to be socially correct and not upset or lose any members. However in Revelation 3.16…it says if you are lukewarm God will spit you out of his mouth. The Pastor at this church refuses to pull his punches. He tells it like it is. It is why I keep coming back. Listen, Learn, Live. Life is forever. You choose where it will be. We have come to this church sporadically mainly due to concerns about certain yellow flags that previous sermons have given us and the sermon today confirmed these concerns. Today the pastor showed a picture of a pride parade as an example of “desires of the flesh” basically presenting the LGBTQ community as an example of moral failing. In the photo people were marching and holding signs reinforcing that LGBTQ folks are worthy and loved, messages which from my understanding are core to the teachings of Jesus but clearly not everyone in the church feels that way. Its really disappointing to hear someone with as much influence as the pastor say Jesus is love and then turn around and have large components of their message being hateful/condemning/not welcoming that community, who from my experience often reflect the kindness and love Jesus’s message more than some Christians that I know. From my understanding of the gospel, casting stones is more aligned with the beliefs of the pharisees rather than those of Jesus but unfortunately I think a lot of churches nowadays seem to be more keen to follow the pharisees than Jesus. I pray that at some point churches like this will become privy to their hypocrisy however I fear that these views are becoming more pervasive in American Christian culture. Its also unfortunate because I feel like components of the pastors message were really good and parts challenged my personal views but his presentation of examples of "moral failings" were openly divisive and Pharisaical to the point where I will not be back. I wasn’t planning on writing anything but figured it would be worth it to warn those looking for a church that focuses on preaching Jesus’ love rather than the “culture wars” and this neoevangelical victim complex that is pervasive in these newer churches. The music was too loud, mainly because the bass is turned all the way up. Even during your 15th anniversary video, the base was clipping and thumping while other work was being done on the stage. I'll be back when you rent the place out for a rave. I know you're going to tell me I'm in the minority and everyone else enjoys it like that.. whatever. I go back to simpler days, and churches that had pipe organ music, it was very beautiful. And because other churches have a similar type of production, it makes me sick and tired of trying to find a church that I can enjoy, so I'm not going to bother looking anymore.
