What visitors say

I attended this church and was part of a cell group. I eventually stepped away because of concerns around privacy, transparency, and spiritual pressure. When I joined cell (small group), I was told that what was shared in the group stayed in the group. I later learned that cell leaders write weekly reports summarizing personal sharings, which are passed up to zone leaders and pastoral staff. This was not disclosed upfront. Because I was not comfortable with that, I specifically asked my cell leader not to include my sharings, and she agreed, until recently, when she informed me that she would be including them going forward. This was not presented as a request for my consent, but as a decision. The reasoning given was "spiritual covering," and I was told it had been prayed over and confirmed by multiple church leaders. For me, this felt like a breach of trust. Privacy and consent should not be reframed as spiritual obedience issues. Prayer and care do not require sharing someone's personal information up a leadership chain without their agreement. Shortly after leaving my cell group, I was also removed from a ministry I had been faithfully serving in. The reason given was that cell membership is a requirement for serving. This happened around the same time as my last cell attendance, communicated by my zone leader to the ministry leader. It is worth noting that the church is currently in a cell break period through the end of August, meaning this decision was made without waiting to see whether I might find a new cell group when the new season resumes in the fall. I understand that churches can set ministry requirements, but in my experience, the way this was enforced felt rigid and discouraging. To me, it was another example of how this church's institutional structure can override a person's genuine desire, faithfulness, and willingness to serve. The broader culture here is highly hierarchical and top-down, with pastoral staff, zone leaders, and cell leaders, and a strong emphasis on structure, reporting, and membership requirements. Becoming a member requires regular tithing, cell group participation, a weekend retreat called Encounter, and an 11-12 week Experiencing God program. Some may find that meaningful. For others, it may feel controlled and performative. I also believe the church should be transparent about how attendance is tracked. There is a small camera on the stage that captures zoomed-in footage of individuals' faces during service, not for security purposes, but so church leaders can identify who attended. This is separate from the headcount that ushers conduct. Attendees are not informed that this is happening. Whether or not it meets a legal threshold for disclosure, people have a right to know they are being visually identified during worship. There are sincere and kind people here, and I appreciated some aspects of the community. But based on my experience, I would encourage anyone considering this church to ask clear questions about cell reports, privacy practices, ministry eligibility, leadership structure, and attendance tracking before getting deeply involved. This church seems for the 2nd generation of Koreans including other English-speaking groups. Many young people join in the worship service. Chapel and Parking are very good.. The sermon is very long. But I decide to send two my sons there. I love my church her dominantly Asian church. But except all a lot of love and compassion. Once you come to this church, you won't want to leave!! I came for the Friday night praise singing and praying session between 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. It was so fun and serious. we have 10 minute quiet pray sessions and 15 minutes pay outloud sessions. No sermon on Friday night. I brought my friends and they loved it. If they chose church over dancing clubs and bars on a Friday night, Southland Church PRAISE and PRAY must be great because my friends are 👌 smart, or at least they think they are. I saw alot of people bringing coffee cups with them. the church is hidden behind a big car dealership. please come early to find it. navigation took us to the area only . we had to drive around to find the hidden church. 🫥 Plenty of parking and safe even at night. I really want to say thank you for showing GOD'S LOVE to the community of orange county, when I went to this place for the first time to receive the food bank, it was extremely heart touching to see all this amazing church people serving other people and showing how God is still caring for his creation. Thank you guys, for touching people's life with God love through your services, you guys truly are God instruments.
