When I lived in Berkeley for my studies, this was one of my go-to churches. I am grateful for every moment I spent there and for the warmth I felt in that community. I pray that the peace of the Lord, which transcends all understanding, will be with all of us forever. Love this church - it was like a second home to me for 5 years. Though I live elsewhere now, I still listen to their sermons from time to time. * The Berkeley location has about ~200 adults on a given Sunday, which is a great size for getting to know people, but having some anonymity when you need it. * Sermons are bible-centered and intellectual, but well-organized and applicable. The pastors are well-prepared. They are also very sensitive to non-Christians in the audience. * The community is warm and welcoming, but also respectful of your space/privacy. It's a multi-generational community with a lot of young families in particular. * Worship is a mix of hymns, contemporary music, and in-house songs. It is led by passionate, professionally skilled musicians. * Aside from Sunday service, there are plenty of ways to get involved through mid-week small groups and a wide variety of local outreach opportunities. My family and I visited this church once and it was an easy decision to continue attending weekly. The people are genuinely warm and friendly, and currently in this pandemic season since reopening, people have been good about wearing masks. There are many things I love about this church, from its quaint and classic ambiance, to the genuinely friendly people, to the trusting & comforting children’s ministry where we can drop off our kids prior to the sermon. What I love most though is the quality and heart of genuine musical worship throughout the service, and the theologically sound and truthful message in each sermon. In my personal Christian walk, I started with developing a genuine heart for Jesus, to now seeking the Word in deeper and deeper ways to answer and deal with life’s most challenging questions and seasons. Every week, I come away with another nugget of wisdom and a more humble heart for the Lord. If you’re looking for a heart-filled experience and deeper focus on God, look no further! Christ Church Berkeley has been like family for my wife and me, never more than right now during covid-19. The church leadership has been communicative and generous, and has leaned into the challenge of continuing to teach, shepherd, and serve the congregation through online services and community groups. Both now and in ordinary times, we've loved being involved on Sundays (talented worship musicians and solid Biblical preaching) and also throughout the week (in our 'community group' that meets each Thursday). It's also a welcoming spot for newcomers; they're used to having guests because of the nature of being in Berkeley, but aren't so big that you can't walk up and introduce yourself to the pastor after the service. I've been a part of Christ Church more than a year now. Something distinct about CC is they provide liturgies (physical paper with the order of worship) and it's helpful in guiding your meditation and prayer time during service. Lord's day service starts at 10:30am. Ends around 11:40, followed by coffee hour. That's when you get to meet people and mingle a little. I was surprised by how welcoming and approachable the pastors were. The pastors are awesome! love their preaching and how friendly they are. The music is a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary Xtian music. Very thought out and beautifully played. Anyways, if you're looking for a wholesome, not over bearing, peaceful and beautiful space to be in on Sunday mornings to worship God or explore Xtianity, come to Christ Church. Lastly, this church emphasizes discipleship through small groups and community. So if you're looking to go deeper in faith, come to Christ Church!
