Just the nicest congregation EVER. It took me a long time to find this wonderful inclusive church. I have been going over the last month and I will join soon as a member. This church and their loving thoughtful ways must indeed make Christ smile. Have attended this church since childhood, incredible people with an inclusive and affirming community. This is a wonderful church. It may be smaller than some but it is mightier in many ways. I see it as a hub where we all come together teaching, learning, and living in fellowship with one another so we can go out into the world in many directions spreading the news of God’s love through Jesus Christ and JEDI, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Pilgrim UCC is unique in the San Diego region. A community dedicated to an honest exploration of the meaning and significance of Jesus and how that understanding manifests in spirituality and service to others. The community has a passion for social justice action and a genuine concern for each other. And Rev. Madison Shockley, as the (only?) black pastor of a predominately white church in San Diego, brings a "tell it like it is" perspective to both theological and current issues which is concurrently challenging and non-condescending (like "Wow, I haven't looked at it that way before."). Although I live in downtown San Diego, I have yet to find a spiritual community that compares to Pilgrim. Suggest you give it a try some Sunday at 10:00 in person or 10:30 on Facebook and see if it resonates with you. Progressive church with great messages every week. Active fellowship based on serving others in need and learning how to actively help.
