Friendly inclusive members. Work with quilt group and they are all joy to be with. A light and bright church -- in spirit, style and atmosphere. The people are friendly and welcoming in the best possible way, genuine and easy going. Worship style is liturgical but not stodgy. The teaching is an excellent blend of biblical (without being lost in the minutiae), accessible, challenging and socially current. Our kids are grown up but the children's/youth programs seem well attended and energetic. A very happy find for us. Bethlehem Lutheran has been our church home ever since moving to Encinitas over 20 years ago. We did some church shopping at the time and really appreciated the welcoming feeling we got at Bethlehem and the fact it was so family-friendly. Our daughter grew up going to Vacation Bible School here, attending Sunday learning circles, and eventually going through confirmation and the high school youth program. The support our family has received from both the youth programs and the pastoral care from both past and current pastors has meant the world to us. In addition, the music programs are welcoming of people at all levels of musical ability -- if you are enthusiastic and want to participate, they will find a place for you! My husband and I have been in the handbell choir for years and really enjoy it. Lastly, it is so important to us that Bethlehem became an all-inclusive church through the Reconciling in Christ process. Our congregation is welcoming of all people under the LGBTQIA+ rainbow. Our congregation also somewhat unique in that we are made up of folks of differing political beliefs and socioeconomic levels. To be honest, our makeup at present is not very diverse racially and ethnically, but leadership has taken steps to offer adult educational opportunities about racial and economic justice that have been well received. Come check out Bethlehem Lutheran for a friendly, grace-filled, all-inclusive church home with wonderful music! We have a mixed race family & many kids. Each went through Sunday school. Ate good food, had great fellowship. Lutherans drink COFFEE!! Very welcoming of all people. May take awhile for some to warm up, but each person is accepted. Good short sermons & a little singing No admonishing, just support. At BLC you see and hear the words "all are welcome" a lot. It is not just a cute slogan it is a reality. For me, with this congregation and our wonderful pastors, I feel I get better reception to the message of Christ than most places.
