What visitors say

Wonderful place to worship. I attended Mass at 11:30am in Sunday and it was packed. I love the English hymns with the Roman Liturgy. The parish members are welcoming. I’d like to take my family again when we visit Irvine. Mass is done here in the Anglican Use of the Roman Rite. Despite being in the Diocese of Orange, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. Very small location, but its Mass is much more reverent than those found in larger Catholic Churches. Father Glenn is a very good homilist and defends the honor of the liturgy, and the music is very conducive to proper worship. Deacon Christopher was only ordained a year ago. Very personable church. Small and close-knit congregation. Part of the Ordinariate of the Catholic Church. Anglicans and Episcopalians thinking of converting to Catholicism would feel very at home here. I would probably feel like I needed confession if I rated a Catholic Church less than five stars; the primary purpose of this review is to highlight some things that I know people care about when looking for a Mass or a parish. - This church is part of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, not the Diocese of Orange. The Ordinariate was set up for Anglican converts, and answers directly to the Pope. It is a legit Catholic Church authorized to use an Anglican-style liturgy. The priest is an Anglican convert. - The priest here faces the altar during the Mass and communion is received kneeling and on the tongue. The Mass is not in Latin, but parts of it are different if you are used to a regular Roman mass. - This church is inside a larger building, a law firm that has a Catholic chapel attached. This sounds weird, but it is very nice inside. St JHN is a wonderful, small Catholic Church. Seating is very limited, but the setting is intimate. No microphones needed. The singing was very solemn and respectful. I attended during a Prinicipal Mass which covered a lot of ritual and liturgy. The homily was tremendously mature and informative. I wish my own church offered the depth of spiritual understanding and instruction. Great Sunday!
