A few years ago, I discovered the St James concert series. I think, at the time, I was listening to the choral group Voces 8, when I found out they were playing there. I breathe heavy metal, but I'm also a sucker for baroque and the human voice and everything in-between. I thought to myself, "I've spent worse Sundays than being in La Jolla. Why not?" Traffic...is, but the more South you go, towards the church, the parking gets much easier, especially late afternoon. I'm gonna say it. I don't think you will find a better musical experience for the money in San Diego. First, the accoustics are devine. Groups better be good to sing there because nothing slips by and nothing gets lost in there. NOTE: There are pipe organ concerts there as well. I can't speak for how that sounds, but I'll give it a listen, eventually. And congratulations to whoever does the lineup for the series. I've enjoyed every group I've seen there. If you ask me, I think every music-loving San Diegan should try something completely different on a Sunday afternoon / evening and check this place out sometime. I think a lot of people will be really surprised. I shot a wedding here this past weekend. It's a very beautiful church, but there are a lot of restrictions for photography during wedding service. Outside of that, the staff and clergy are kind and polite. Very home-y. A beautiful interior and a rich history. Stanford men's choir sings here every year, among other frequent events brought held. I called this church a while back over the phone, and spoke with one of the male receptionist, and from what I gathered through our conversation, no compassion, no fruit of the spirit, very disappointed. I thought to myself, this is a bad representation of what followers of the word are displaying in these times!!!👎🏻 The Assembly of Daughters of the King held on May 21, 2016 was beautifully arranged and executed by Elena Luz, D.O.K. Chapter President and her friendly assistants! It was a lovely event from the food to the flowers and the inspiring speaker, the Rev. Monica Mainwaring. Thank you everyone!
