What visitors say

I have visited about ten different California missions so far, but this was my very first time at the Historic Old Mission San Luis Rey, and it truly stands out. Unlike some of the smaller missions, this one features a remarkably large and exceptionally well-maintained community. The entire grounds are beautifully organized, pristine, and full of life. 🏛️✨ Because of its historical significance and beauty, the mission draws a lively crowd of both locals and tourists. Despite the high volume of visitors, the large parking lot makes the entire experience completely smooth and stress-free. There is so much history to absorb and plenty of beautiful sights to see throughout the property. 🌸⛪ It is an incredibly impressive and peaceful place, and if I have guests visiting from out of town in the future, this is absolutely a spot I would love to bring them to. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a beautiful piece of California history! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Such a beautiful Mission! It’s a huge mission and it also has a coffee shop, museum, gift shop and a cemetery all in the same lot. There’s plenty of parking. The mission is active and has masses in service. We went on a Sunday and mass was being held at 9am. As soon as the mass was over we were able to go inside to see the beautiful church! We had an awesome time learning about the history of the mission. We also grabbed some coffee and walked around the cemetery. First mission down, 20 to go in California! "The King of Missions" really nice couple of hours visit, started at the cemetery grounds looking at the old tombstones, then entered the main church a classical Franciscan novo-hispanic design similar to those found in Sonora and Chihuahua. Next we hit up the museum which is really nice and has some unique artifacts, finished walking the grounds down to the Lavandería. Recommend to visit this place. California history comes to life. Mission times, Mexican-American war, early 19th century. A nice and peaceful historic church located in Oceanside. This mission is very beautiful inside and is nicely maintained. I’ve had family members get married here and it was beautiful. Also go visit the museum that’s here as well! A beautiful old mission chapel restored and in use for weekly mass. I have been able to attend and find a seat. Normally seats are a premium at all masses held in the mission church 7 am English and 9 am or 7 pm misa en Español. The attendees are always friendly and the priests are very welcoming. The museum, gift shop, and cafe open later and close early, so plan accordingly. I recommend visiting the cemetery as it is beautiful, peaceful, and most the time has a cool ocean breeze passing through. The old priests pass through and have been known to greet and bless you and your loved ones. 🙏👍🏼❤️🌬️🌊
