What visitors say

When I was around 8 or 9 years old attending the Hillside Arts Academy, I was placed with children a year below me in school during a summer camp, which made me extremely self-conscious at that age. These concerns were brought to Harmony Bathour, but I did not feel they were handled with the care, empathy, or understanding you would expect when dealing with a child. Now that she has children of her own, I hope she can reflect on her actions with humility. That said, things improved significantly in later years when different people took over directing the shows at the Arts Academy. The environment became much more supportive and encouraging after that change. I believe it’s important, especially within churches and leadership positions, to practice what we preach and treat vulnerable children with kindness, compassion, and care. I understand no church is perfect, and one experience does not define an entire congregation. Still, I believe churches should be sanctuaries where children feel emotionally safe, supported, and encouraged. have been many churches across countries—first time experiencing racism, and notably, never in the secular world but here, in a place that supposed to be the house of Jesus. Monday Young Adults fellowship: a worship team member showed clear dismissiveness and arrogance from the start; she chuckled when I shared background mentioning I’m from Asia; and the most of time flirting with the guy next to her rather than respectful discussion of Bible study. I stayed and shared out of courtesy, though I wanted to leave. I’d like to believe this was an isolated incident, but the reviews somehow show a pattern of bias against Asians. What kind of teaching leads to this? Are Jesus’ warnings to the Pharisees all in vain? I’ve been coming since March as a silent listener. I’m just trying to find my way.. this past Sunday I attended the 8:30 service. My intentions were to ask for prayers as I’m having a very hard time these days. I sat in the back as I usually do and my emotions took over. I cried like a baby, the usher was staring at me and I felt uncomfortable and left. (This was before church even started)I felt so alone in a house that shouldn’t make you feel that way. I feel the “clicks” everyone seems to know everyone. I’m quiet and shy so maybe that’s my fault. I will say Pastor Aaron does a great job with his words. I enjoy listening to him. I love my new church. I enjoy worship and fellowship after service. The welcome was very warm and inviting. Thank you Hillside for a new church to honor our father in heaven 🙏🙏🫶🏽🫶🏽 We are blessed to attend Hillside. The strong emphasis on youth programs, Bible exposition, Community, serving the church and others in practical ways drew us here and keeps us here. Hal & Peg
