For personal reasons, this parish will always have a special place in my heart, and serves me an occasional visit. I attend Mass at another parish. That said, I deeply lament the fact that they added the vending machines for votive candles inside the church. It's very much irreverent and a lack of respect for the house of God. Vending machines have no place inside a church. While there praying, someone purchased a candle from the machine and the sound it made as the candle was dispensed was super loud. Again, a most disrespectful addition. We were there recently for the St. Jude festival, and I felt they were pushing the donations hard. One big bin labeled "donations" would have been enough. But they added four bins around the St. Jude statue they bring out for the festival. Almost begging for it. It was a tacky look. View the attached image. I circled all the donation baskets. Between the vending machines and all the donation baskets, it comes off as if this church just cares about finding the most ways to get your money. On my quest to visit every church in San Diego county, I visited Saint Jude's Shrine for Sunday Mass. 4 stars only because there is almost no parking and ss of October 2022, they are still making everyone wear a face mask 😷. ♿ Parking available and access to church as well. Welcoming church. St.Jude in National City is one of the most peaceful, beautiful and incredibly spiritual churches I have ever been to. St. Jude is the parton saint of hopeless cases.....St. Jude is always ♥️ there for me. I’m very disappointed with the office staff at St. Jude’s Church. I was placed on hold for 30 minutes and no one ever came back to the line. Eventually, I had to hang up because no one answered. I never received a call back or any follow-up. This kind of experience makes it really hard to feel supported or welcomed when reaching out for help or information. I hope this can be addressed moving forward. Amazing church, I was fortunate to go to the relic of the St Jude tour.
