𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 & 𝐴𝑐𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝐴𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑡 It is profoundly disheartening that a non-profit corporation operating with over $𝟓𝟎 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in net assets and heavily funded by public taxpayer dollars systematically fails to comply with mandatory disability accommodations. As a Palestinian transgender domestic violence survivor navigating severe systemic friction, I expected standard compliance and human dignity from an institution that receives massive public subsidies to serve the vulnerable. When I explicitly informed the downstairs supervisory staff of my documented medical conditions—Celiac disease and severe lactose intolerance—and kindly requested a reasonable accommodation regarding the food resources being distributed, my request was met with an immediate, unyielding "No." The supervisor issued this refusal flatly, without entering into an interactive process or considering the health risks involved. The reality of what is placed on the plate is a direct hazard to my health: Cross-Contaminated Gluten Vectors: Food containing wheat/gluten that triggers an immediate autoimmune reaction due to Celiac disease. Dairy Products: Items containing lactose that directly conflict with my documented gastrointestinal medical needs, forcing severe inflammation on someone who is lactose intolerant. Expired Provisions: Items clearly marked past their expiration metrics, compounding the physical risk. Because GLIDE operates a massive physical facility open to the public and accepts extensive municipal and government contracts, their flat refusal to accommodate a disability—especially for an individual navigating Autism and severe autoimmune/gastrointestinal conditions—stands in direct violation of state and federal statutes: The Unruh Civil Rights Act (California Civil Code § 51): This law explicitly mandates that all business establishments and public non-profits in California provide "full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities, privileges, or services" regardless of sex, gender identity, gender expression, medical condition, or disability (including Autism and autoimmune conditions like Celiac disease). Refusing to engage in an accommodation request violates this civil mandate. Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. § 12182): Federal law classifies severe food allergies and autoimmune responses (like Celiac disease) as physical impairments that substantially limit major life activities. Public accommodations are strictly required to make reasonable modifications to policies, practices, and procedures to prevent discrimination and severe health risks. ✦ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐲𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜. ✦ Glide Church is amazing. Its radial inclusiveness makes everyone feel welcome. Already at the entrance you are warmly welcomed, and everyone on the inside are so nice. The worship is exceptional, great music, preaching and spoken word prayers. Have you ever been hurt by a religious community, are you in need of spiritual healing a place to belong, this is the place to go. Homes are where hearts are. At face value San Francisco ban be cold, but this js a meternal nature and is very caring to the pious. Glides, thanks for feeding a scared cat while I landed on my feet. My home Church I've been. I've been seeing and going to glide for at least 20 years. Great place to be good people. They even serve food to the homeless. This is where the heart of San Francisco lies right here in tenderloin I love Glide. A very welcoming community. You do not need to be religious to be a part of this experience. Just care about humanity. ❤️
