What visitors say
Vibrant, engaging, faith filled multicultural community. Historical landmark, many events. Street parking and lot parking. Plan ahead it can get unexpectedly busy and traffic can build up. Beautiful new church next to the original Mission. Helpful volunteers will answer questions and help you find what you need. Our visit to Mission San Rafael was brief. We knew the underlying history of this site being completely rebuilt, etc. There are plenty of other great reviews with interesting historic information previously posted. Still were interested to visit and glad we stopped by. It is a small charming mission, and at sunset it was truly beautiful. Adjacent hilly streets were calm and quiet at that time, beautiful lush plants and blooming flowers surrounded the mission. It was a lovely stop on our way from Napa to Novato. Small replica but amazing experience. The ladies that volunteer are amazingly helpful. We brought our son up from Los Angeles for his school project and it was a beautiful experience for the family A Serene Historic Haven: Tucked away just steps from the bustling center of San Rafael, this reconstructed Mission (a nod to the 1817 original) offers a tranquil and intimate glimpse into California's Spanish colonial past. It is not just a landmark, but a living, working Catholic mission that provides a peaceful escape for visitors and locals alike. Intimate and Charming Architecture: The small, 1949-rebuilt chapel is a gorgeous, quaint replica with a warm interior that feels both historical and welcoming. It is a lovely place to sit, pray, or simply appreciate the quietude of its surroundings. Both churches or buildings are beautiful and they are interesting for learning the origins of the place. They are great for dramatic pictures as well.
