What visitors say

A beautiful church building, I highly recommend visiting. If you are new to the Catholic faith (convert) this may be a good church to get into. They sing and clap during the Mass with a full band. The priest ad-libbed a few times during Mass. An example would be for the concluding prayer. He didn't say let us pray and no one stood up for it. The Eucharistic prayer was said correctly, but this is definitely not a conservative church community. Still, I believe the Mass was valid, the people participating were kind, and the church building was beautiful. I would visit again for a tour. I was very under prepared for how contemporary this church is in the music selection and practice. Be prepared for LA showtunes version of the service, very, very brief pauses and no bells calling down the holy spirit. I write this review because I wished I'd read Google beforehand so I was more prepared. When the Google summary description of this parish says "contemporary" it means it. I'll likely be finding a slightly more meditative Mass for myself while I'm in the area but if you're coming from a more contemporary practice and transitioning to Catholicism then might be a good exploration. Nice St. Monica Catholic Church. Nice people and very active group. Very big and spacious hall. Good for your next events. Inquire at the administration office for more details. So, I bake my mother's recipe for Pumpkin pies every Thanksgiving for my family I've been doing this for about 15 years now. I always make the filling and fill the pie crust on the Tuesday night before the holiday, so the pies are as fresh as possible and the filling flavor left overnight, really soaks into the crust making for much more delicious pies. That said today, I called St Monica's my church to find out where to donate the two extra pies that I made special for the Thanksgiving dinner for the needy tonight. Only to be told over the phone "Sorry you missed the deadline, which was on Monday". The lady was rude and abrupt with me, So I ended up giving the pies to the West Side Food Bank in Santa Monica, which was more than happy to take the pies. I have to say If I was running a food drive especially given the economy today, with more people in need than in recent years. I'd make an exception. She was apparently too busy to ask someone if they would still be willing to take the pies. So as of today I will no longer donate to St Mo's charity food drives. And if they are short on pies tonight, anyone is shorted on desert, they can thank that rude woman on the phone that basically told me "What do you want me to do about it? You missed the deadline". I don't know maybe it's just me. but when people are hungry I'll bend the rules to be sure they get to eat. Great three level underground parking. Beautiful church.
