What visitors say

Let me begin by saying that I live a nomadic existence. When asked, I like to say, “a Nomad, tethered to Christ.” I have the unique privilege of Serving and Teaching in a variety of spaces, predominantly overseas, and during the in-between seasons, Los Angeles at times becomes my home base of sorts. Roughly 3 years ago, like you and others, I found myself on Google Maps looking for a place to Worship and Fellowship. A place that Teaches the Bible clearly, somewhere steady, somewhere at the time, I could walk to. Haha, I know, clearly I'm not from LA but I don't have a car. By God’s Grace and Favor, that search led me to Living Faith Presbyterian Church. People come here from near and far across LA and beyond. A wonderful quality I think. Like someone has said before me, it feels a little strange to write a review of a church, but Gratitude asks to be spoken. So here it goes: Living Faith is centered on the Word of God, not as a concept or a slogan, but as the living and trustworthy foundation for Faith and Life. Things of Significant Note: * This is a church that confesses the God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. * Scripture is trusted as the inspired, infallible Word. * Salvation is understood as entirely by God’s grace, given through Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose again for those who trust in HIM. HE is our Hope, our Savior, and our Mediator. * Through the Holy Spirit, we are guided, strengthened, and slowly shaped to walk in a way that honors HIM. What I found at Living Faith was not performance or spectacle, but reverent Worship, thoughtful teaching, and a steady, sincere community. I was not treated as someone passing through, but as a Brother/Sister in Christ. There is a gentleness here, subtle but clear. If you’re reading this, you already know that finding a church can be challenging, to say the least. Churches are filled with us, sinful people, perfectly imperfect, broken and hurting and hurt people often inadvertently or purposely, hurt others. Living Faith is not an exception to that truth; no church is. But what you will find here is a community of people at various stages of life, learning to practice Repentance, Healing, Patience, and Love. A community growing in the Word and in Prayer. A place that equips you to do so daily. It is a church that loves the Truth, Cares for People, and has a Heart for reaching Global Communities. If you are seeking a place where the Bible is treasured, Christ is honored, and ordinary Believers walk together in Grace, you may find a home here, even if only for a season. Be Encouraged and Remember to Pray over your decision to not only visit but possibly stay. God knows exactly where HE wants you. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. It feels odd to write a “review” for a church, so this won’t be that. Instead, I wanted to share my experiences coming to Living Faith Presbyterian Church (LFPC), and things that I wish I knew when I first visited. Please note that this information applies to LFPC. There’s a Korean language church here called The Way Church, which is a separate church. And there might be some reference to a Hebron Church, which I understand was a different church that used to meet here many years ago. FINDING LFPC Finding a church was difficult! There’s no comprehensive directory so even knowing what’s out there was tough. I tried Yelp/Google. I tried churches that people recommended. At the end of the day, for us, we found this church through the Presbyterian Church in America directory. We first came about 2 years ago, and became members about a year later. So please keep in mind that I’m writing this as a fairly new member, but a member nonetheless. BIBLE TEACHING We had a list of priorities when we were looking for a church, but in the end, we were drawn to LFPC due to their solid biblical teaching which we saw in their messages, their bible studies, and through the spiritual maturity of the members. This is a church that is committed to teaching Reformed Theology. SERVICE Service starts at 1PM in the main sanctuary. It’s covenantal worship style, meaning that children stay with adults during service. However, there is a separate baby room in the back for the littlest ones and their parents as needed. Service is fairly standard and they have communion every Sunday (praise, offering, prayer, message, communion, benediction, fellowship). This is an English speaking church, but we share the space with a larger Korean speaking church (called The Way Church), so some of the building signs will be in Korean. In terms of size, it’s large enough that if you’re new and want to sit in the back and leave right afterwards, you won’t stick out. But it’s still small enough that someone may notice that you’re new, and will come by to say hello. And the members are genuinely warm and friendly. Of course, some people are shier than others, so not everybody will come over to say hello, but there were many who came over to welcome me on my first day, and I’ve seen that this is typical. The congregation has a mix of children, college students, young adults, couples, and families with children. BIBLE STUDY There is a separate children’s ministry program at 11:15 and an adult bible study (or prayer meeting) at the same time. This is on the third floor of this massive building. And it’s only accessible via the stairs on the south side of the building, not the north side of the building. To get there, you’ll need to either go through the metal gate/door across from Jay’s market, or if that’s closed, go through the main building doors, turn left and go down the corridor past the Korean-language service, and then you’ll see the stairs going up. Lunch is served between bible study and the worship service. However, there are some weeks when the church doesn’t have bible study, so I would encourage you to check out the website for the calendar, if you plan to stop by the Bible Study for your first visit. PARKING If you’re coming for the 1PM service, there’s a fenced parking lot south of Jay’s Market on Norton Ave. If you’re coming for the 11:15AM bible study, then heaven help you!!! Just kidding!!! There are a few parking spaces on the north side of Pico, at the Union Club parking lot (4075 W. Pico Blvd). If the club is busy, you just need to tell them that you’re parking for the church. And there’s usually some street parking within a block or two of the church. I haven’t had difficulty finding parking on 4th and 5th Avenues, north of Pico, or along Pico. COMMUNITY GROUPS As a commuter church, members come from as far away as Granada Hills, Glendale, Downey and the South Bay or as close as 1 block away. CG info on website. This church has helped me and my family a lot and continues to help. The people are very responsive and kind, everyone is very friendly and eager to talk, even though I don't speak the language very well. Thank you all for being here. As for parking, there is a fenced-in free parking lot for church parishioners. I came from my country with prejudices against church, but people who truly call themselves believers gather here.
