What visitors say
I wish there were more churches like All Souls dotting Atlanta. Leadership here is in line with the Gospel and centered on Christ. I love their facility. I enjoyed my recent worship experience at All Souls. Music was upbeat without being over-the-top or going on for too long. Songs were not familiar, so many people were not singing, but it still felt worshipful. The sermon was excellent. Thoughts about love in action—as followers of Jesus. There were lots of young families, who seem to have positive connections with each other—always a healthy sign for a community of believers. I love that All Souls is actually engaged in ongoing mission outreach in the local community. A visitors’ table with church info, obvious visitor welcomers, and reserved visitor parking near the doors would have been a nice bonus. We absolutely love this church. Great people, great leadership, great heart for our community. A place for good believers to fall spiritually asleep. My wife and I left this church feeling fuzzy. It feels like they were about nothing, but had lots of “good vibes.” Not once was the gospel preached in the songs or sermon. There was corporate repentance followed by an assurance of adoption into God’s family, but no idea that maybe forgiveness was because of the Cross. Even the cross at the front of the church was fuzzy hidden in a collage of images of other things. The sermon was repetitive, but fine. There was truth preached, but you had to know what you were looking for to find it. I can see why many get stuck at this church, because it is easy and seems not bad. Each of the congregants I spoke to seemed nice. One shared they had previous attended another more vibrant church, but now went here because it was closer and easier. We were led in singing by a band which was musically pleasant with lots of “good vibes,” but it didn’t feel like worship. Most of the congregation didn’t sing, but just listened to the music. One of the songs that was sung went, “I’m laying down all my religion, I’m laying down, I want to know you, Lord.” It felt watered down, but watered down what? Many non-Christians have described church to me as “it doesn’t do anything for me” or “I just don’t feel like I need it.” This is how I felt after attending this church. I don’t know if I am for or against it because what even was it? I have never been to a church that so fully embodied the church of Sardis in Revelation 3. “Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.” I have been attending All Souls for many years. I am so grateful for this church and the community that it provides. This church truly aims to embody what Jesus set forth. All of the staff and ministers are dedicated & caring people.
