What visitors say

This is a place I truly call home. My family and I have been attending and serving at Elevate City Church for over 5 years now, and in that time we’ve experienced the beauty, the challenges, and the incredible growth of a church that started from the ground up. We’re always excited to share this place with friends, coworkers, and even people we meet for the first time—because Elevate is a place where you can feel loved, welcomed, and safe the moment you walk in. Our kids absolutely love Elevate Kids and Wake. They look forward to coming every week and serving wherever help is needed. This community has become family to us, and we’re grateful for every moment we get to be part of it I attended Elevate City from June 2025 to December 2025. Throughout my time there, there were many things about this church that stood out to me. Starting with the positives: 1: There is an emphasis on creating a nice worship environment. The dark ambience with an emphasis on synths, electric guitars, and a loud bass may deter some people, but I appreciated it. 2: The "equip" groups are a 10-week discipleship-making journey that connected me with a group of believers and outlined how to effectively spread the gospel. In addition to this group, we went out and served the community through discipleship outreach opportunities, which shows this church's dedication to spreading the gospel. 3: Just as it is advertised, this church is a "Jesus" church, and they are true to their message. Everything is Jesus-centered, which is what a church should be. The negatives: 1: The preaching style from Pastor Joey can be very "culturally inclusive". Yes, the point is to not fall into the traditional "boring" preaching style in which a pastor simply reads from the Bible and fails to connect with the audience using modern-day references. However, the disconnect is when the preaching seems to be pushing an agenda for a sermon series using movie clips, quotes, or random cultural icons, then pointing to the Bible and trying to fit them into the Bible. The Bible should be the center of the message, and there were certain sermons that felt as if the Bible was secondary or not the primary focus while the preaching was occurring. 2: There are minimal small group opportunities. I reached out to leadership individuals seeking a small group. I was pointed to equip, which I had already participated in. I was then told about "equip x" which is the year long discipleship journey. However, the requirement for you to join that "small group" is that you have to lead your own equip group. This to me does not make sense, as the purpose of a small group is a Biblical theme of finding fellow believers to share life with and to uplift one another in daily life, using the Bible as the base. That should come before "leading an equip group." This church does not currently have small groups offered, so if that is something you are seeking immediately, I would look elsewhere. 3: Pastor Joey is not very accessible. In the fall before the PTC campus was announced to be opened, I reached out to Joey to grab lunch and connect with the church. We set up a time, which he canceled, and after I followed up twice with no response, I dropped it. 4: This church is very "young". This does not have anything to do with the age of the church as an organization; it is thriving and doing well for the age in which it is. The leaders are all in their 40's or younger, the average age of the congregation looks to be in their 20's-30's. You see very few people above 60, which to me is concerning for the congregation as a whole. 1 Peter 5:5 is an example of how we should submit to the elders, not those young or young in their faith. 5: This church does not have readily accessible information to the congregation regarding the list of elders and those who lead the congregation. Does this church even have a suitable list of elders to care for the congregation? 20-year-olds leading other 20-year-olds is wise. 6: Building a community in this church requires you to reach out to them to find community, instead of the church helping you find it. 7: The constant camera work during worship, filming individuals while they worship, and then posting it on social media feels very people-centered instead of gospel-centered. It seems this church intends to be more of a "look at me and what my work as a church is doing", instead of "look at the work that God is doing through my church". I appreciate the church’s efforts to reach young people, but I wanted to share some feedback. I’ve noticed the pastor and his wife sometimes don’t greet members, which can feel unwelcome. I’d love to see more emphasis on humble leadership and traditional teaching styles. Also, the volume during services can be overwhelming at times. This church needs a lot improvement. They don’t give opportunities to young children to play either. They already have their band. My friend left disappointed that there is no opportunities to be part of this church. Typically white people! We absolutely love this church, it truly feels like home. As a family of four, we all look forward to Sundays here. If you’re searching for a non-denominational, family-friendly, Jesus-centered church in Sandy Springs, this is the place. And the worship? Simply incredible! Wonderful church family! Pastor Joey is phenomenal in my personal opinion. If you want to learn to disciple to others this is the church for you.
