What visitors say
Have been to CCC many times as a visitor for vacation and conferences. Super welcoming, genuine and shepherding pastor who preaches the Gospel without any shame and loves people well. Amazing, amazing worship! Well, what can I say. Everything is perfectly orchestrated here. From the moment I parked my car to walking out of the door. The church is huge, and very crowded. This makes it into a victim of its own success. Apart from those assigned to talk to strangers, people here are minding their own business. I had a good feeling when I left the church, but it was the kind of fulfillment you get after going to the movies or a concert. If you are seeking a spiritual encounter, I don't recommend Compassion Church. If you just want to feel good on your Sunday morning, look no further. It honestly wasnt too impressive. Its felt more like a concert with the general vibe and the parking lot situation. The music was pretty good and I felt the spirit a little bit, but the preacher wasnt very engaging and his sermon wasnt all that helpful, it was more like "be a good person and do good things" type of sermon. Kinda felt more like a history class teacher than a preacher. All the cameras and special lighting equipment kinda took away from the vibe and they had WAY to many angles, it also made the sermon about being humble and not relying on riches feel kind of redundant. They weren't very welcoming and the most we got was a smile and a welcome. Overall we probably won't be back but it was a fun experience The journey was a great event put on by Compassion Church. A reenactment of the birth of Jesus. You had the opportunity to go back in time and experience what it must have been like to live during that time. They did a fantastic job putting this together. It really brings the Bible to life. This was walking through an outdoor trail starting with Mary learning that she was going to have a child and ended with the birth of Jesus and the three wise men. Even walking toward the start of the trail, you were greeted by Roman soldiers who were not so friendly, just as you would have imagined them to be. The actors did a great job playing their roles and staying in character. The props were very detailed including walking through the market in Bethlehem and paying your taxes (which they provided the gold coins at the beginning for your taxes) and being counted for the census. This experience took 2 hours to go through but very worth it. We will be driving up there to experience the church service at some point. We are not looking to change churches but we would like to see what there services are like. My family and I were looking to possibly start going to a new church. We found this church on Google and decided to give it a try. All I can say is this is not a church that cares about new comers or 1st time visitors. From the moment you walk in, you're lost. No greeters or anything to accommodate helping you navigate the lobby area. We finally made our way to the kids check in counter, and it was apparent that the people working this counter did not want to be there. Not one person looked happy or excited to be there, no one said hello, nothing, it was super odd. Well the odd behavior didn't stop there. Once we made it upstairs to check in the little ones, we ran into a guy that was trying to speak as if he were Donald duck. Starts speaking to my 5 year old and doesn't even acknowledge us, the parents. Then he starts to direct us to the door to go into, and stops me from walking them up to the door to drop them off. There's some kind of weird line where parents have to stop, like me and my wife walking our children all the way to the door and seeing where our kids will be for the first time is some kind of dangerous thing to this church. Now, remember, we have never been here, we aren't from here and this is what we encountered in the first 15 min. The service was ok. Again no information from anybody so we were unable to take the communion because we were unaware that they have the cups outside of the sanctuary doors like it's a newsstand. As if that wasn't enough, what really pissed me off was picking up my daughter who had been crying for most the time and no one notified us. As I was standing there in their disorganized pickup line I could see my children straight ahead but they had me in a line going around the corner to another room. And who do you think put me in that line, you guessed it, Mr Donald duck guy again. I told one of the members working the counter that my children are right there, 5 feet behind her. My little one saw me and sprinted towards me with tears running down her face. Apparently she had been crying for most of the time and instead of getting us, her parents, like we explicitly told them to do, they went and got her sibling. I spoke with the head of the children's area about all of this nonsense right then and there and she already knew without me telling her who was the main problem, the Donald duck guy. He shouldn't be working in the kids area at all. She apologized for the trouble. If you don't know how to run or operate a kids play area for a want to be mega Church, then shut it down. It's supposed to be fun for the children. Not something that scares the living crap out of them to where they feel like hostage and never want to go back. After all of that, we stopped by the information desk to ask a couple of questions about the church. Again we were met with people who did not look to happy to be standing there. I was asking about the church's values and things like that, no one could answer me, they would only say, "I think it's on our website, or you can take the class." I would think a church would staff people at these areas that would have the knowledge to answer new visitors questions. To me it also shows you have members that care and love their church. Needless to say none of my questions were answered. They gave us one visitor gift bag. And this concluded our first visit to this church. Never again will we return. What I want to say is stay away from this church, but this still may be a blessing to someone else in search of a church home. This place really has potential if it truly cared and was passionate about growth.
