What visitors say
This church has been my church home for over 10 years. The focus of this church is on glorifying the Lord Jesus in all it does and helping others to know Him. The singing portion of the worship service is always edifying. Pastor Jon's preaching is always insightful and practical for Christian living. In addition, between small group Bible study, seminars, neighborhood outreach and fellowship events, this is a church that takes Christian discipleship more seriously than any I've ever attended. The church leadership makes a deep, personal investment into every member, seeking to help them grow in their faith and loyalty to Jesus Christ. Over the time I've been here, the Holy Spirit has used this church to shape me into the person Jesus calls me to be. Come and see for yourself. Have you ever tried to go to a church and you walk in, try want to meet people but no one really tries to talk to you because you look terrified and new? Or have you ever wanted to do something to help out the church, but they couldn't find anything for you to do, or have you ever wanted to meet with a pastor, but he could never find a time with you? Well, this isn't that kind of church; the people who go there are friendly and they want to actually talk with you, the pastor is a great guy who is always available, and there's always some way that you could help out. They have a great ministry working with the homeless in the neighborhood and they're not just flippantly throwing money at them either. The rubber actually meets the road here when it comes to this church. Don't get me wrong though, the church definitely has some flaws. But what church doesn't? If you want to come and disappear and just sit and enjoy a sermon, then you will find it hard to do since just about everyone in a 15 foot radius wants to say hello. Or if you expect to come just to be "encouraged" and not actually be challenged to do better then you won't like it when the pastor asks tough questions. I mean, that's why we go to church right? To just be encouraged and disappear, right? Overall, I would say that this is a great church. It may not look like much, but we all have seen diamonds in the rough. If you look past all of the preconceived ideas of what the church is "supposed" to look like and actually look at what these guys are really doing in their neighborhood, you'll see that their beliefs and their lives truly echo what you will see in the bible. My Wife and I live in Michigan, but we visited C3 with our five children for worship on a Sunday Morning, while we were on vacation. The people here were genuinely loving, and welcoming. This is a church which (I would submit) unmistakeably models Jesus Christ's Sacrificial Love for others. If we are in Chicago on a Sunday again, this is where we would plan to worship the Lord; and I would encourage you to do the same. Everything is Awesome! The Pastor Jon and congratulations is fantastic. Service is great, the sermon is very understanding. Thank I thank God for sending me and my friend to the church. You will really like the service. This church seems to want to function more as a business than a church. Perhaps it would be more efficient if the pastor were to go and sell used cars. He pulls off the look quite well. The church exploits homeless youth for grant numbers taking superficial "professions of faith" and trying to dunk...er baptize...youth who do not truly even believe in Jesus...for the sake of more grant money and a few more notices of spiritual pride. Oh and if you're gay, the pastor might even offer you a crisp $20 to go to "straight camp." They capitalize on the grant money from this community and charging Southern youth groups a nice sum of money to sleep in their pews so that they can put advertisements on your doors. The marginalized street community is not even the true focus of the church. While using them to gain financial support to continue existing, they really want to target well off young professionals in East Lakeview (forget Boystown) so that the pastor can up and move to England someday. However, what bothers me most about this church is that they would banish a youth for having a minor mental disability which of course would impair judgment and he would make immature decisions. Instead of working with his special needs they told him not to come back. To quote the pastor, "Only Jesus can help you and we are not Jesus!" Seems to me like I would want to go to a church where Jesus is. If you're considering this church, I would look elsewhere.
