Designed by Harry Weese, the concrete structure is one of the most unique in downtown Chicago. It also has a one of a kind of worship space that I’ve never seen anything else like before. Definitely worth a peek inside as you walk up Wacker Drive. Attended a Dame Myra Hess Wednesday concert in this beautiful Mid Century Modern Brutalist style sanctuary. Great acoustics, comfortable seating. The members of this church today consider it a privilege and a responsibility to honor the vision of the earlier members and their acclaimed modern architect, Harry Weese, and his team. They are currently making strides to refurbish the space in both large ways (new roof, new lighting, paint, outdoor plaza) and small (removing dings, smudges and stains). The members invite the public to see this well-known building. (Check our website for hours.) All are welcome! First time inside with the architectural tour. A nice building. Visited Chicago for a Rolling Stones concert and was doing some sightseeing. Had seen this church a few times on previous visits and decided to stop in with my dad and look around. Firstly, Debra at the front desk made sure to clarify that it is NOT a church of Scientology. She then gave us a brief tour and history lesson, shared with us her experience in the church, and showed us the incredible organ they have. Incredibly loud and sounds amazing. Not something I usually would have done, but am very glad I did. Even if you are not religious, definitely a place you should visit simply for the architecture. It’s like a trip back in time.
