I spoke out about a presence at work that was not the Holy Spirit, and was told never to come back and if I did I would be trespassing. Then the ‘pastor’ Micha directly lied to me in a conversation about why I wasn’t allowed back. Attended for about 6 weeks. They are very well organized and a good meaning community of people. I appreciate the vision of permeating the world and not buying into the mega church “super seeker sensitive” model, but perhaps they swung a little too far back in the other direction. My wife and I spent 6 weeks there and weren’t ever really welcomed in, but weren’t pushed out. Once we decided we were ready to join into the “participating in community” we were informed they only allow people into those groups once every 6 months. This is a miss for a young church and a lack of wisdom when it is a big portion of your values. In addition to their “circles”, they are neighborhood based—which is part of their vision. But this does make it a bit difficult if you connect with people in the church or unchurched people and then want them to be a part of your spiritual life inside of the church constructs. It is just clunky and needs some wisdom to it. This is ultimately what pushed my wife and I to look elsewhere. Overall, you’ll like this church if you value teachings—as they are typically about 50 minutes or so and packed with a lot of content. They are very well organized and know what they want and stick to it. They communicate well. And they are up to date with just enough technology, but aren’t trying to be trendy—the perfect blend in my opinion. The church is youthful and energetic and that is refreshing. The only reason I posted this was for people to know on the front end that you might not be welcomed into the spaces you feel like you need for your spiritual life—and they are very rigid in this aspect of the church. We are so thankful for The Sanctuary - it is truly the faith community my husband and I needed in this cultural moment and in our own personal relationships with God. The Sanctuary models a church community that values authenticity, curiosity, solidarity, honesty, proximity, integrity, etc. with an emphasis on both Scripture/shepherding and on local justice initiatives. It strikes a difficult balance between being safe for those exploring their spirituality and being challenging/encouraging to those who call Jesus Lord. I could go on and on about the beautiful work that The Lord is doing in and through this church, “In Indianapolis as it is in Heaven.” They truly are the people of presence they claim to be. We are so proud to call The Sanctuary our church home. You know it’s a great church when it takes you only 2 visits to join! Honestly; I’m so thankful to God that He sent our family to this church. They are culture changers for sure! They “ see” you and are about God’s heart. It’s refreshing! Excited to be apart of the Lord using the Sanctuary to bring the kingdom of God to the city of Indianapolis!!!! If you are looking for a community that is modeled after the way of Jesus and the early church, this place is for you. Our weekend worship gatherings are theologically sound, formative, and enriching. Our small groups are devoted to love for neighbor and friend, committed to the work of becoming tightly knit through presence and sacrifice. You won’t regret checking this church out!
