What visitors say

John 14:6.... My family and I love this church and have grown and our knowledge by consistent expository preaching. The best church to bring to bring your young children. There are signs at The Field Church of strong doctrinal conviction, high expectations for behavior, emphasis on obedience, holiness, submission. These can lean toward what some perceive as legalism if not balanced by grace, humility, mercy. I came to this church as a result of their evangelism team visiting my neighborhood. I was visited by two young men I believe to be in their early twenties. They were collecting a spiritual survey on their phones that I agreed to participate in. I was open about my church history and church trauma but told them I would be there to check it out. I also told them I didn’t know how long I would stay as I have to follow my peace and where God leads me. I checked out their website ahead of time and didn’t want to go after seeing the section under The Gospel. I believe the Gospel to be the Good News of Jesus’ love. The section was focused more on the law rather than love. I went anyway because I had given my word to these two men to try it. I got to the church about 15 minutes early and was greeted outside by a man and a lady. The man shook my hand and the lady was ready with a name tag letting me know that everyone in church wears a name tag. (She could sense my apprehension) She asked if I was new and when I said yes, she added a smiley face to my tag. I asked to have one without the smiley since she confirmed it meant I was new. It’s important for me to see how people treat others without the label. She gave me a name tag with just my name. The man showed me around and was very kind. Coffee is available and everyone is able to move around freely which I was happy to see. Kids were also welcomed and allowed to be kids. One other lady told me hello, I could see she didn’t recognize me and looked to my tag and smiled politely. The pastor was not out greeting people and didn’t come out until it was time for someone to mic him up and begin. Demographics were all white presenting except for one black gentlemen. When I left (I left early during the “giving basket”) another family of color was coming into church. I asked them if the church was inclusive and the man asked “in what regard.” I read the bulletin and noticed the section where a board of 7 Elders were listed. All of the board members were men. During announcements, a man spoke about church membership and said after submitting an application, membership would be “considered.” It was at this point that I made the decision to leave early. I give two stars for kindness and kid-friendly. If you are looking for traditional religion that isn’t Catholicism, this could be for you. If you are craving expositional teaching, this is the place for you. No fluff just straight teaching of God's word. Really like the open architecture of the building. Many large windows which provide a spacious and bright view the outside. The worship was unlike most of the non denominational churches of today in that the volume was not so loud that ear plugs are needed. I did not see many hands raised in worship. The message was more “Bible College” oriented as opposed to one where the speaker was inspired to preach a message they felt in their spirit, however I learned a lot of interesting facts and an perspective on the implications behind the author of the book being covered (in this case Paul the apostle) and how it affected the Roman political system in place. The reception from the congregants was overwhelming in their kindness and love.
