What visitors say

My family was looking for a new church family during covid and, while we never expected to like what felt like a large church, we felt at home at Chapel Hill Bible Church. CHBC has been a great place for our children both teens, and college age, to grow and learn. It has also been such a sweet community to serve in and kids ministry is full of real truth meant to prepare them for life today and fun. We see a genuine longing toward spiritual growth, emotional vulnerability, accountability, and support in/from pastors, leaders, and members. The Parish Model and life groups help make CHBC into a smaller community as well. I know who to go to in my area if I want help with practical things like meals or regular life things like moving. We also love the different cultures represented at CHBC. Being a mixed culture and language home, it was important to find a place welcoming all of us and where the value of that was honored. We love this church fam and are thankful God called us here. It is a joy to grow and serve at CHBC. My wife Pam and I have been going to CHBC for 19 years. It has been a joy to sit under pastors and teachers who explain the gospel message of Jesus Christ clearly with truth and grace. We are thankful to our church family who have encouraged, loved and blessed us through the years ~ Thanks be to God We are new to the area and looking for a church to make home. We have been on a "church tour" as my family calls it. We walked into the church for the 9am service. It was a ghost town. We arrived promptly at 9am and if I had to make an estimate I would say 25 people were in the room. It looked to be able to seat hundreds, we are used to also prefer a larger church. Felt cold. I attempted to speak with the Pastor but he wasn't very interested. I did speak to some people during the service and they seemed to be personable. Music was nice but there was hardly anything that was familiar to us. We come from a church background that sings more popular songs and enjoy ones that are generally more expressive. I respected that they want to be more traditional but it was boring for what we are used to. Most important we felt unwanted and out of place. We will keep looking. Edit: 3-17 is when we went, my review was just now approved Loved the church’s atmosphere and the pastor’s preaching. But the music felt unprepared and off-pitch, which made it hard to enjoy. For that reason, we’re moving on to visit another church. The church building is lovely and of course the people are nice here. I went for 5 weeks but I can't go anymore. For one, they keep the temperature much too cold for me. I realized this after my first time, so I changed my outfit for next, yet I was still too cold. My earrings were freezing in my ears and even my feet were getting cold within my boots. I'm not going to wear a winter coat in the middle of summer in order to be comfortable inside a church. There seems to be a very weak sense of community here, you walk around each other as if you are strangers. The people who volunteer here are inviting and welcoming of course, but the church goers are hard to connect with. I am looking for a holy place of worship that feels more like a community. Also, I'm not sure if this is normal, but they switch preachers every week which I personally find inconsistent. Lastly, I noticed so many people do not tithe, which is the only part in the Bible where God says "test me on this", because that is how important it is to welcoming in your personal prosperity. The messages of the Bible are to be used and taken seriously and I need a church that really understands how to convey the practical USE of the Bible in every day life, or else what's the point of going to church?
