What is the oldest Cathedral in the U.S. that is still being used as a Cathedral? That's right, St. Peter in Chains (well, according to the Archbishop of Cincinnati anyway). A beautiful place to observe Confirmations, whether you are Catholic or not. Across the street from the historic Isaac Wise Temple and next to City Hall. A lot of history in this one block of Plum Street. We visited this place on a lark while attending a wedding in the area. This Greek Revival cathedral is one of the most unique churches we’ve seen in the United States. With its Corinthian columns and mosaics, it evoked feelings in us that we rarely encountered inside a Catholic Church. Honestly, it’s quite hard to describe other than to say there’s nothing quite like this cathedral among the many churches we visited, and it struck us as a singular achievement. It certainly was a memorable place to visit, and we’d like to go again after having learned more about it. The architecture is gorgeous. The building was built in the late 1850's, and definitely went full greek-temple-vibe. It was dark, but really really cool. It almost had the Bond villain aesthetic to it. The sacristan was kind enough us go in the back and see the museum and all the pontifical vestments. It was way cool. The cathedral is oriented exactly the way it should and was definitely worth the visit. Wow. What a magnificent interior. Must visit this unique cathedral We visited during a pilgrimage from Maria Stein. We really enjoyed the tour that David gave us after Saturday mass. This is a beautiful church with a lot of rich history!
