I don’t say this lightly. I’ve been in church my entire life. I know the Word. I know what healthy leadership looks like. I know what real community feels like… and I also know when something is missing. After trauma and divorce, I needed more than a place to sit on Sundays. I needed a place that would meet me in the middle of the mess and help put me back together with truth, grace, and with consistency. That’s what I found at The Rock Church. Pastor Eb is one of the most gifted teachers I’ve sat under. He doesn’t just preach, he teaches in a way that reaches both the newest believer and those who have walked with God for years. There is depth, clarity, and truth in every message. But what truly sets this church apart is how they love. They love the addict. They love the homeless. They love the broken, the overlooked, the ones trying to hold it together for their kids. They love people who are struggling, people who are rebuilding, and people who are looking for a church home. They love everyone and it’s not surface-level. They love hard. They show up. They stay. In a season where I needed both truth and healing, this church became a place of restoration for me. Not perfect people, but a real body of believers living out what it means to be the Church. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, be seen, and be loved while you do… this is it 💗 I have been attending The Rock Church for a year now, and it has truly become my spiritual home. The community here is incredibly welcoming, and I have grown so much in my faith over the past 12 months. The worship is powerful, and the biblical teaching is always clear and practical. If you are looking for a genuine, loving church family in Columbus, this is it! I’m writing this review with conviction in my heart to warn others about this place. I want to first state to the reader that the positive reviews are indeed from people who are well involved in the church, but several of them are from those who are either related to leadership- or are in leadership themselves. So as expected, they’ll have overwhelmingly positive things to say about their own church. However, the reality is that this church is run more akin a cult than a healthy church. They have mastered pulling people in. Their worship music is amazing, there are smiling faces at the door, and when you enter, it seems like they’ve been waiting for you to come. They make a stellar first impression on people but it is simply just that- an impression. This is a church that pretends to be in order. All the while, entertaining and promoting unchecked prophecies & “words” from congregation members who believe they are prophetic, traveling “prophets” such as Kevin Leal- who desecrated a Bible during a conference at their headquarters in Parkersburg, and entertaining outbursts of tongues from congregants and having unvetted people interpret them. This behavior is completely normalized. There is a large focus on their social media and how they are perceived. Leadership often seeks to emulate large organizations (belonging co., elevation worship, etc). This sounds harmless, but the media team as well as almost all other teams are often under a lot of pressure to perform. It’s often the responsibility of a small group of people to do the work of 10-20. They also hyperanalyze their social media analytics to curate a polished image and gain more followers at any cost- and even have discouraged the team from using direct Bible scripture under captions because it does not boost engagement nor prompt followers to comment. It is easy to fall into pride serving under them. I am guilty of it as well. When you bring your concerns about anything to leadership you are met with immediate attention that sounds promising at first. But in many meetings, there is a lot of deflection and blame-shifting. Any legitimate concern that is not in their favor is labeled as “a lie of the enemy” or blamed on your “spiritual immaturity.”Over the years you will be brainwashed to believing that there is no better church than The Rock. Attending events or visiting other churches is seriously frowned upon. After a couple of years, you start to notice the behaviors listed above. You’ll want to leave at this point and if you’re someone who stayed in the background, you probably can just stop going without others noticing. But if you’re someone who has been offering up your talent in service, in leadership or plain just well known, you cannot leave without without going through what seems like literal hell trying to get out. The Rock expects 100% loyalty even if you have already left the church. If you are known to speak out against the church in anyway, leadership will discourage the congregation from speaking to you or about you. They will blame it on “protecting the sheep”. But in most recent cases starting around 2024, it seems that it’s because they’re angry that the person is speaking out against them. I have had to hear my husband say that The Rock organization ruined his life. I’ve had to get him therapy. He’s developed medical conditions he hadn’t had beforehand due to the stress and heartbreak he experienced after leaving and being ostracized. There are times where I think back over the years and wonder if anything was real or if anyone genuinely loved us. I’ve tried to keep the peace the best I knew how. We left in late 2025, but to this day- my husband is harassed by members of The Rock organization if he speaks out against them and their major errors in the church. If not being harassed, he is completely ignored as if they never knew him at all. If you join, this could be you and your family. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I pray that the reader heeds this warning. Rock Church Columbus has truly been a life-changing place for me. The presence of Jesus is so evident here — His love and power are manifested in every service and every interaction. Pastor and the leadership team are truly amazing, guiding with wisdom, compassion, and authenticity. The church community is filled with love and support, making it feel like family from day one. Because of the encouragement and teaching here, I was inspired to purchase my very first hard copy Bible, and it has deepened my walk with God in ways I never imagined. I’ve now been a member for over 3 years, and I am so thankful for how this church continues to nurture my faith and surround me with people who genuinely care. If you are searching for a place where Jesus is alive and the community is strong, Rock Church Columbus is it! The Spirit of the Lord is in this place! I had a vision that happened for two Sunday’s and it confirmed what I discerned every time I step into The Rock Church! Those visions have changed and taken my worship higher in the Lord!! Ascension
