What visitors say

So, I went to this church for 3 years. At first, it was great. I thought for sure this was my church home. Turns out, I was wrong. They built the new church and it seems something shifted. All of a sudden, it was bigger and it seems to me some members thought they were getting "bigger" as well. I felt like there were people who were important in the church and than the little peons who just went to the church. I never once talked to Pastor Josh and considering he was right in front of me once, looked at me, and then walked away to talk to someone else, that tells me a lot. It's very cliqueish. No one reaches out to call and ask how you are if you haven't been there in awhile. I needed help moving in November, and not one person offered to help me. I know it's not an obligation, but last I checked if we're a church family as it's been stated over and over again, there is not much "family" happening. The Pastor has been in the news lately, and he apologized, but to me, he lied. He talks of being authentic and being a leader, but doing things like that, aren't being a leader I want to follow. And yes, there is a lot of talk of tithing. I understand the concept, but if you have an entire sermon in November about donating and money (EVERY November) I feel it's a red flag. I wouldn't want to go to church for my first time and hear that as the opening sermon. The building is nice, and the worship is decent, albeit loud. But, all in all, just use discernment if you go here. Watch yourself. I am just disappointed because I thought this was my church home. Somehow, at this point, I feel they are just putting on a good show. I live right beside this church. I watched it grow from being in one of the shops empty spaces to a beautiful church. So many times I looked over as I drove by, and felt a pull! My son, and I had both attended another church in Richmond. But, after COVID, and an uncomfortable youth group, my son didn’t want to attend church anymore, and I stuck to U Tube on Sundays. We talked about this church for a few years. I didn’t think he would ever change his mind, but I continued to pray. After talking to a co worker about Heights on U Tube, I found out she was attending there. I decided to go the very next Sunday with her, and I was so pleased! I told my son about the experience, and fingers crossed, still praying, he decided to come with me. He LOVED it! So very thankful Heights church came to MY neighborhood! God bless you Josh, Crystal, and all of your team! 🙏🏻 This is a typical mega-church. They refer to services as "experiences" and the production quality is excellent. Now, I have NOTHING against professionalism, and a high degree of that in service of God is great. Especially when the message is spot-on, which it really was. But, I would struggle with discerning God's presence from the glitz and glamour. I guess it would appeal to a younger generation, and I will not criticise, but I don't think this will become my spiritual home. I am looking for a simpler "experience" with the same community focus and sincerity. Hope that makes sense. 🤍🙃 The experience is amazing. The people are very friendly and inviting. It's like going to a family home and getting that incredible warm welcome. Would recommend to all who are looking to build relationship with God and community. Pretty bad taste in my mouth with this place, honestly. Just moved to the area and was looking for a home church. After reading reviews about poor communication and trying myself to find other's experiences were replicated with my own attempt, I decided to walk up there as I'm only a mile away. I have a bulging disk in my lower back and the walk took me out and the front doors were locked so I leaned in one of the barricades to catch my breath and allow my back to rest. There was a younger lady walking laps with a male so I asked them if they were members of the church and new of how I could get in touch with someone from the leadership team. The woman said she was with real attitude and was pretty snarky. They went into the kids academy and moments later this guy comes out and towards me and began addressing me from a distance with a show gait showing apprehension. I told him I was new to the area and was looking for a church and was also called by the Lord and was looking for mentorship and guidance on my new discipleship journey. He mocked me and said, "if you're looking for a platform you're in the wrong place. We started from the bottom and now we have this multi-million dollar church so you think you're going to just come in here after we did all the work......" I had to remind him of my words that at no point did I ask to preach or lead, rather I was looking for guidance. He again suggested I find another church. The pastor steals sermons as well. I can't say for sure that God has even visited this church or the "leadership" team. I'll find another one that is Spirit led.
