I came as a UW student and found spiritual mothers and fathers. I appreciated the diversity of teachers and worship teams, and how everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the Sunday gatherings. This is a great place to make your church family. As a member for more than 50 years, I’ve seen a change in the founder, Pastor Ken Kellenberg’s original intent; Straying from a church with a passion for the pure Gospel and missions to a focus on more on controversial political issues. They do not have a pastor to guide them, but have a weak team of rotating preachers including women. Their strongest area is in supporting and helping one another and greet guests openly. I felt really welcomed the first time I attended and I've thought it has been a great place of community ever since. There's a team leadership model to just about everything, which means there's different people preaching and leading worship. I haven't seen any other church model the priesthood of all believers concept in the same way. Worship is just wonderful. Despite not being particularly large, the church has a long history of sending people around the world to advance the gospel. Housegroups provide more intimate fellowship communities. I'd gladly recommend checking out this Bible-believing church. I grew up in an intellectual, evangelical subset of the Christian faith that approaches the Bible as God's Word. When I started coming to FCBC I saw that same value was honored...and along with it was a realness, a culture of vulnerability, a genuineness that is sometimes missing at other churches. I love it. We don't have to put on airs at FCBC; we can admit our mistakes and still be accepted. And my intellect is stimulated by outstanding teaching! This elder led church takes hosting the presence of Jesus seriously, giving him first place in making their ministry decisions. At the time of this review their strategic focii are... 1) the UW Madison campus, and 2) the Triangle, a low to middle income housing community bounded by Park St, Regent St, and W Washington. They have historic evangelical roots as the founder came from the Elmbrook Church network, but through the years have thoughtfully embraced the present work and gifts of Holy Spirit, women in leadership and ministry, and the house of prayer for all nations (c.f. IHOP KC, 24-7 Prayer USA, Bethel Redding etc.). Worship expression has been the vision and crafting of Laurie Croasdale, a pillar of the local music scene. Artistic expression has been carried and birthed by Bobbette Rose, well known on the local art scene. You'll have to bring your real self to this place (in transformation through Jesus of course!) because this is a family of raw, earthy, and passionate brothers and sisters!
