What visitors say
I live in San Diego and I’m housesitting for my son and daughter-in-law who recently relocated here. I thought it would be a good idea to find a church nearby that we could attend when we come out to visit. I looked up the service times online and I decided to go to the second service that starts at 11:15. When I walked in a man opened the door for me and said good morning and then I walked by a information booth and someone was talking to the guy behind the booth and I went into the sanctuary and sat down. I was seated in the fifth row on left, on the isle. No one sat close to me. In hindsight maybe I should have gone in to the church a little later and sat next to someone. Not one person acknowledged me. It was so strange. There were people talking everywhere around me and I felt as though I was invisible. Most churches that I have gone to have a minute to “say hello to someone around you” that did not happen here. I guess they think they know everyone. Or that it wastes the service time by extending it 10 minutes or so. The singing was ok- I don’t really consider their songs my style of worship at all. As I was listening to them all I could think was that it could be so much better. I wanted to ask the worship leader if he had ever listened to K love or the message on Xm radio. Or if he had ever gone to a really big church and experienced that kind of worship that he could bring to that church. I liked the Pastor and I thought his message was good. But I will not be going back. I love this church they do not water down scriptures and the elders are wise in all of there decision making. The youth group is wonderful and the community is great no clicks you will make friends very quickly in the youth group 10/10 recommending! This is a great church. No church is perfect due to sinful people, however, GCC is always seeking to line up as biblically as possible and live out their faith as instructed in the Bible and demonstrated through Christ's love for the church. They do not blindly follow modern Church or early church tradition for traditions sake. Neither do they follow the worlds pragmatic ways when it comes to the condition of the human heart and mind. They shepherd the flock and reach out to the Lost through the preaching of the Word, corporate worship, regular involvement with one another through community groups and service, local missions, training pastors by joining The Expositors Seminary, supporting missionaries in the field, exhorting and encouraging one another, and serving each other. Not recommended for Sunday Christians or those who want a watered-down gospel designed to stroke their ego or make them feel good. My family and I had to evacuate Florida during the last hurricane. It was a pretty scary experience. This church just wrapped their arms around us and really made us feel like we were with family. It was such a blessing to be around all of these people. It is a wonderful church and if were to ever move to the area it would be the church we would want to be members of. Cannot recommend highly enough!!!! I’m an atheist with ADHD. Here are my thoughts on a reformed Baptist (I think) church in rural Alabama called GraceCommunity Church I visited today. It was a nice place with a heavy focus on substance compared to the Pentecostal church I saw last week which focused on inducing spiritual experiences above all else. The music was minimalistic and a bit bland, but lyrically thought provoking, and the leaders interrupted the worship for several prayers and short speeches each with a specific focus on a broad concept like “prayer of thanksgiving” or “prayer of personal reflection”. The guest preacher picked apart a full chapter of Psalms and didn’t shy away from anything difficult or interesting. To say he answered all my questions would be dishonest, but he explained things very clearly and accessibly and left me not only wanting to do more research into the passage on my own but feeling empowered to do so. I give GraceCommunity 3.2 stars
