An interesting old set of buildings from the 1940's. There are creeky stairs and storage cupboards and rooms down obscure passages containing upright pianos, old audio tech and a nursery ready for the 1980's. No parking lot to speak of but if you need a church filming location, they will consider anything that's not blasphemous. A loyal group still meets there on Sundays and midweek. A great place for time travel! It's mostly original everything from galvanized pipes to ADA-what's that? Kitchen is large 1950's style. Bathrooms are small. Attic has character. Services on Sunday mornings begin at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday evenings services at 6:30 p.m. If you are not experiencing growth in your relationship with God, if you have never heard the Gospel, or if you seek greater understanding of the Word or are weary of messages that merely validate you or dispense a watered down gospel, then please visit Calvary Baptist Church of Burbank. Update I have now been attending CBC for a few months. This is a small church but one where the Word is taught without the "feel good" distractions that veer people from understanding that we are indeed saved by grace. Pastor Anthony is highly astute and highly educated pastor who is imbued with the rare ability to explain scripture and cross-reference New Testament verses with the original or related verses found in the Old Testament. I believe any person attending CBC will greatly benefit from studying the Word as taught by Pastor Anthony. Personally, I have experienced real growth and understanding of what the Gospel really means to my life and why it is important to share the gift of salvation to those who are perishing. I also finally understand why genuine repentance is necessary. Original Review This was my first visit. I chose to visit because internet reviews mention the the pastor teaches scripture indepth. The guest who spoke conducted a wonderful and immensely insightful study of Psalms 93. This is a small church but I found today's visit enlightening and hopefully will help guide me in my walk. Rich, solid and understandable expository bible teaching every week. Caring Pastor Anthony and lovely wife, Jenny lead this congregation steadily into maturity through God’s powerful word. People who come to this church are looking for a deeper relationship with God by understanding his word and be used in the everyday setting and not only on Sunday. This church is not for the faint of heart. You will find explanations to your bible questions. After looking into many Biblically sound churches in the Los Angeles and Burbank area, my family and I stumbled upon Calvary Baptist of Burbank one Sunday. We immediately fell in love with the small yet diverse community of caring Christians. Pastor Anthony's expositional preaching stood out as gospel-centered, circumspect in putting the pieces of Scripture in light of Biblical context, insightful, and genuine. We now call this church our home and could not wish for a better family of Christian believers. If you are curious about Christianity and are seeking to know the truth about what the Bible teaches in its historical and original context, I can guarantee that attending the morning service will enlighten you and you will walk away more informed. If you are a Christian who is serious about your faith and wish to grow by delving deeper into the Word God, this church is definitely for you. You will find like-minded believers who would love to walk along side of you and encourage you in your spiritual walk. I love this church. The pastor is very knowledgeable. He doesn't interpret his own opinion like most preachers. He will give you word for word what the Bible actually says. He uses the best interpretation from the original transcripts. He makes sure you thoroughly understand what he speaks about. His wife has this amazing voice when she sings. I love the songs they sing. A lot I never heard of,but easy to remember. This Church is not a feel good preaching. It is real and its what this world really needs. The people are very kind there. Right now its tough to get too close. We sit in every other pew, come in with mask. We get our temperature when walking in. Sanitizer station right at the door. They are very careful. If you can't make it, they stream live. Here is an update. Been going here since April 2020. The restrictions have lightened up now. More pews opened up.I decided to join. I noticed someone mentioned about the structure of the building. Not sure what that has to do with anything. If someone wants to go to a church based on what it looks like, or how old,or anything that has nothing to do with assembly together to be fed,worship, and fellowship, you are going for the wrong reasons.
