From the moment I stepped foot into Pioneer Ocean View UCC about 2 years ago, it felt like home. Yes, it's located in a beautiful spot near Point Loma, but there's more to it. It only gets better after you walk through the doors. The congregation is so genuine, kind, and welcoming! So many people immediately came up to greet me the first time I attended. They took the time to get to know me and make me feel welcome. The church merged two congregations nearly 20 years ago, but you wouldn't know it. Everyone is so open, warm, and kind! You can tell they all care about each other. Pastor Mary Sue Brookshire is incredible! Her sermons are relevant and applicable to every day life. She is passionate and compassionate. She practices what she preaches. After I became a member, she took the time outside of church to get to know me better. The congregation cares about the San Diego community - dedicating themselves to important causes, such as climate change, homelessness, immigration, and equality. Just as the pastor practices what she preaches - so does the congregation. There are always opportunities to serve - no matter how small or big. My favorite part is the lunch fellowship after service. Because everyone is so welcoming, it's always a great time to catch up with people who have become my friends and to get to know other members better. It's all a team effort with different groups taking turns each week to make lunch - which makes it more fun. Being part of POVUCC has been great and enriching. I definitely recommend visiting and giving it a chance - even if you aren't a churchgoer. We attended Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ online last week and in person this week. We experienced an extravagant welcome! We were invited to introduce ourselves or not as we wished. We were treated to a great UCC service. And then we were invited to lunch after worship. Everyone was so friendly! Very welcoming Church with equally amazing view. As a newcomer to Church & religion, I found PioneerChurch to be a friendly, warm & welcoming, place of worship. Pastor Mary Sue has great energy in her presentation & message! She makes Sundays a treat. I attended Yone Shiwotsuka's memorial service and made my first visit to the new physical site for the Church. I absolutely love the view and location of our new Church. I also enjoyed meeting and listening to our new pastor during the wonderful service for a wonderful person, Yone.
