I had been walking pass this church for some time and noticed all the inclusive signage out front. I decided this past Sunday to attend their 10 am service. Oh my!! They are not very inclusive!! I had a terribly racist experience. It's merely a performance!! I sat in the back last row and the white lady next to me treated me like I was going to rob her. Also, she was very rude and hostile. I didn't want to subject myself to further abuse so I decided to simply leave immediately. I confronted her about why she did that and she held the bulletin next her face. Blocking her from looking at me. The weird racist undertones are terrible. I immediately left and I got looks as if I was the crazy person. If you are black and don't want to deal with abuse then I recommend avoiding this congregation. The sense I get is that the signage is a front so they can feel good about themselves when in reality they cool with you until you are black in their space. Why have a inclusive signage only to be abusive!!!!? Ok. Wow. Not only is this place beautiful but it is filled with beautiful souls. Can not go into the details without getting emotional but. This is probably one of the most inclusive churches I know of. With strong community. If this last is what you seek give this place a try. Nice venue with queer friendly banners, interesting and fun events, and beautiful atmosphere. We saw an independent choir performance accompanied by a cellist and organist, wonderful performance! 🎭 Saw Ocean Vuong in conversation with Samin Nosrat for Vuong’s release of “The Emperor of Gladness” - beautiful, well-kept, and organized venue with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Longtime Calvary member, and still love the congregation's openness and welcome to all, service to the greater San Francisco opportunity and ample ways to easily join community service projects, and multi-generational church family. The gorgeous sanctuary and incredible music program are also great draws, and the church also increasingly hosts book events and concerts to share the space with the broader community.
