What visitors say

Since June 2018 through all the seasons I have had since moving to San Francisco, this church Vive San Francisco, has been home, community, friendship, growth, challenge, hospitality, worship, and everything that draws me closer in my relationship to God! The people are welcoming, real, and passionate, and some of the funniest I know, the music moves me into the presence of God, the sermons challenge me and drive me so deep in the Word, and the food and conversation keep me long after service ends! And how we have community all in the week, with home groups(bible studies), hiking groups, birthday parties, women’s and men’s gatherings, and opportunities to volunteer and pray together, keep me so rooted in this transient city. Picture one was my first night at vive church and I thank God for my Yes that first day! Walk up and say hello, and see what all the joy is about! VIVE SF has been my home church in the city since 2018 and I am JUST getting to writing a review for it! This church has become a family and community to me in a city that can sometimes feel like it’s constantly ebbing and flowing with people moving in and out of the bay. So blessed to have found this church when I first moved here and found friends and leaders, exponential growth in my Christian walk, and just so much PURPOSE in my life here! Thanks for being here VIVE SF! ❤️❤️❤️ VIVE SF is home. It’s a place to find genuine faith based/rooted community in the heart of a city otherwise rooted in tech alone. I have gained genuine friendships, while growing in my walk with God every Sunday and even Wednesdays for group since moving to the Bay Area from Seattle, and for that I am so grateful! We aren’t meant to do life alone, especially in a city so big as SF. Come and see! One decision could change everything for you! Randomly found this church on maps and decided to try it out. It’s been 2 years and have been going every Sunday. Such a great community. Everyone is kind and truly cares about you. I have never experienced this level of community and care within a church. We have restaurants we go to as a group after service. It has been a great way to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Have made some lifelong friends in this church. We all push each other to be better and support one another in hard seasons. This church is the reason I still live in San Francisco. I got a remote job and this church was more than enough reason to stay. Can’t say enough good things. As a Black woman who has been part of this church community in Oakland, I want to share my personal experience. Over time, I raised concerns with leadership about what I perceived as contradictions between the church’s stated values of justice, inclusion, and equity and the public political alignments of certain leaders. For me, these concerns felt especially significant given Oakland’s deep history of social justice and advocacy for marginalized communities. When I brought these concerns forward, I did not feel heard or meaningfully engaged. That experience left me feeling disappointed and disconnected. For some people, political affiliations may feel separate from faith. For me, they are deeply connected to how communities are impacted — especially Black, immigrant, and working-class communities. Because of that, it became difficult for me to reconcile my values with what I was experiencing in this space. I believe churches have the opportunity to model accountability, courage, and care for marginalized people. While others may have different experiences here, I personally did not feel that alignment in this community. If issues of racial justice and political alignment in faith spaces are important to you, I would encourage you to ask questions and discern carefully whether this church is the right fit. I share this honestly and respectfully, in hopes that faith communities continue striving toward greater integrity and care. — Stephaney
