What visitors say

A visit to Mission San Juan Capistrano is truly special. The mission is incredibly well preserved, with so many fascinating artifacts and relics to explore—it really brings history to life. The grounds are absolutely stunning. There are vibrant blooms everywhere, from succulents to rose bushes, creating a peaceful and colorful atmosphere. It also attracts a lot of wildlife, which adds to the charm and makes the experience feel even more serene. They have a lovely little gift shop and even a vegetable garden, which adds a nice touch to the visit. This is a perfect spot for special occasion photography or even a meaningful school field trip. The Experience & History: This is a perfect stop on the way to Laguna Beach. Historical Significance: This is a stunning historical building that has been around since 1776 (currently celebrating 250 years). Atmosphere: The mission buildings are historic and very well maintained. It is a very calm, family-friendly area that is great for walking around and taking photos. Tours: A great touch is that they provide a self-guide program in several languages, making the history very accessible to everyone. Logistics: Admission: I paid $18 per person, which is well worth it to explore and help preserve the grounds. Parking: Be aware that street parking is limited directly in front, but it is easily walkable to public parking lots nearby. Verdict: A beautifully preserved piece of California history. I definitely recommend stopping by! Excellently preserved historical site, and very educational. I didnt partake in the audio tour option, but the fact that it was there, along with the many stations to use it on, show that it is used well. Got to see some students on site - glad to see the child education still goes strong, even after my personal elementary education visited here decades ago. Somewhat related, the gift store on site could use more history books related to the mission, and the colonization period. Not a miss, for sure, but would have been a bonus for history enthusiasts such as myself. The historical place is a must visit. It was beautiful. They will give you some kind of remote control to listen the history of the people and places. The only thing we did not like is that they did not let us take pictures of my husband and I. The staff lady said it’s not allowed to take pictures with props and tripod. Otherwise we have to pay $200 dollars. We were just wearing white casual dress and long sleeves polo with my husband with his khaki pants and it was tucked out. It was a casual wear and it didn’t allow us to take pictures. We are not professional photographers. It was our first time to visit. We were disappointed of not having taking pictures by ourselves. We didn’t have anybody else to take our pictures so we had to bring a phone stand. But it wasn’t allowed. We don’t want to bother asking anyone to take our picture. I thought it was the best place to take pictures of us for our anniversary. I just thought it would be memorable for us. The staff lady didn’t let us. So disappointing. Very beautiful Mission. They have free audio tour devices that went into much details. Staff was friendly. Price of admission is worth it with how much there was to see. I went at 2pm and closed at 5pm and within those 3 hours I still didn't see everything (I was listening to the audio guide so I took my time learning the history of the mission). Children might not appreciate all the historical information but its still beautiful to walk around and keep them engaged. The church inside the mission is beautiful. Heads up, weddings are not allowed but I did see 5 couples bring a photographer and in weddings attire, don't know if you have to ask permission for that.
