Pastor Chase and Pastor Matt are faithful men of God. I regularly listen to their teaching and deeply appreciate their commitment to equipping men to reclaim the culture for Christ. Boulder needs godly leaders who boldly preach and faithfully teach the gospel, and these pastors do exactly that with clarity and conviction. If you are a young man or woman looking for solid biblical leadership, I strongly encourage you to attend The Well Church. Pastors Chase and Matt will guide you in sound doctrine, biblical order within the household, and Christ-centered headship. Most importantly, they will faithfully lead you in the Way—Jesus Christ Himself. The Well is a friendly and warm church that has modern music and well delivered sermons. I’ve attended three services here with my children and will likely return after we go see a few more churches in the area. The only reason that I did not give it five stars was that I think they could do a little more to welcome new folks by having some prepared talking points or handouts. This is not a major issue but just something that could be improved. I’m an outgoing guy and there are folks standing on the steps that greet you so that is great. However, when I asked questions about the kids program and core church beliefs, the answers seemed somewhat off the cuff. Not dishonest in any way, just not thought out in advance. If folks are church shopping (like me), it is nice to get concise and consistent responses when asking questions vs feeling like you are getting one persons honest take. That said, everyone was very friendly and I even found folks that were willing to have open minded and respectful discussions about a particular area where I disagree with their take on who can serve in leadership. For me, it is critical to be able to talk with folks openly about things we disagree on without being disagreeable. Diversity: Some other reviews stated that there was not a lot of diversity in the congregation. I did not find this to be the case. There were young and old, including many young kids, and people of all different skin colours. Personally, I don’t care about how diverse a group of people is. I only care that all are welcome and no one is discriminated against based on their immutable characteristics. I have seen no signs of discrimination at The Well. The music: wonderful modern music with guitar, keyboard, and sometimes other instruments. This is very different from the traditional pipe organ and choir that I was raised on, and I love it. It feels wonderful to sing praise songs with the rest of the congregation that have contemporary style melodies and rhythms. Sermons: I have kids so I’ll lead with: the sermons are not overly long. This might sound minor, but the way we develop future generations in their love of the Lord is to make church an enjoyable experience. 1 hour sermons just don’t work for kids. The sermons at The Well are 20-30 minutes in length and thus far have gone through specific chapters in the Bible. They then touch how those teachings relate to modern life. TBH this is exactly what I want from my sermons. Translating the scripture into living in the modern world. Politics: Despite what other reviewers have written, I have not seen any specific calls for political action of a partisan nature. The closest thing was embracing previously established national days of prayer. I’ve met folks from all political affiliations there and none have been aggressive or argumentative about particular issues. I’d say all are welcome is the bottom line here. The building: bright and clean. It is great to see what they have done with the church that used to be there. The main hall is big and bright and the lower level is very nicely laid out. They are a bit sparse on decorations. Not as many crosses or scripture quotes on the wall as I would expect, but overall it feels good to be there. Overall, I really like this place and look forward to coming back. The Well is one of the best churches in the Boulder, CO area. How do I define what makes a great church? 1. Preaches the gospel, truth, and grace 2. Desires for people to know and glorify Christ 3. Smaller community groups that meet regularly, and upfront/easy ways to get connected 4. Pastors that genuinely care about you as a person, your growth, lavishing you in truth and grace, and spurring you on in your faith 5. AMAZING musical worship on Sundays 6. Connection points throughout the week 7. Welcoming atmosphere for believers + non-believers 8. People have FUN together 9. "Church" happens not just on Saturday mornings 10. People desire to see other people know God - a church that is missional in it's area .... I guess that's what I mean when I say that The Well is a great church. If you’re looking for a biblically sound church with caring leadership and good preaching this is the church for you. The most loving pastors are those who faithfully deliver the whole counsel of God including the difficult parts! You will grow and be blessed being apart of this family of believers. Not very welcoming or friendly. Insular. In doing more research, I wonder if it’s because they are not liked by the community. Maybe that has led them to be paranoid and distrustful of new people. Or maybe it’s just the personality of the church community. Regardless, it’s not a pleasant. Went to Calvary and felt very welcomed. They seem like part of the larger Boulder community, as well, so maybe that’s why.
