I love Cornerstone! They have a great relationship with college students, young families, and townies in Bloomington. They do an amazing job at outreach and serving the community. If you're looking for a place that loves people from all walks of life, is biblically sound, and teaches you how to follow Jesus in the every day stuff of life- Cornerstone is the church for you! Love this church! Everyone is inviting and compassionate. Sound doctrine and teaching. The worship is really good as well. Would recommend this church for anyone regardless of where they are in their faith! Caring about missions is biblical, and I fully support helping people in need. That isn’t my criticism. My concern is when nearly every service includes another appeal for money, to the point that fundraising becomes one of the church’s defining characteristics. The New Testament doesn’t simply tell churches to support missions; it also tells leaders to guard against an unhealthy focus on money. Elders are to shepherd the flock “not for shameful gain” (1 Peter 5:2), an overseer “must not be a lover of money” (1 Timothy 3:3) and “must not be greedy for money” (Titus 1:7). Giving should be voluntary, “not reluctantly or under compulsion” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Supporting missions is commendable, but if members consistently leave remembering the fundraising more than the preaching of Christ, it’s worth asking whether the church’s emphasis reflects the New Testament’s emphasis. So many kind and loving people there. I live in the neighborhood and love hearing people gathering. A lot of life is being lived well in that Church. They are probably one of the most generous groups of people in the way they live that I've ever met. :) I love Sunday services at Cornerstone (great preaching and worship) and a really great community of people.
