I am sharing this post on behalf of my husband, Barkev. I was born in an Armenian Christian home in Aleppo, Syria. My dad was the assistant editor of a Christian magazine. I was led to the Lord by my Christian school teacher when I was seven years old. When I joined Piedmont Baptist College in 2005, my wife's and my priority was to join a local church. We joined Salem Baptist Church because it met most of our spiritual needs: worshipping, studying God's Word, sharing the love of Jesus, soul-winning, missionary outreach, Christian growth, and service as needed. Salem is a spiritual home for us. We share our prayer burdens, soul-winning opportunities, studying God's Word, and Christian service. The Holy Spirit is fulfilling our spiritual needs. I have had the privilege of serving as a deacon and in various other opportunities. We are now enjoying retirement from our professions. Life in Christ is rewarding. Salem Baptist Church is helping us to continue enjoying life. The Bible is our manual. Augustine said, "Where Scripture speaks, God speaks." We appreciate the priority of Bible exposition as basic for our pulpit. We look forward to what God has to say to us. The Bible is a Christ-centered book. Our aim is to exalt Christ. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus confronts us with the truth that each of us is building a life. He wants each of us to build a life according to the truth of God's Word. Jesus said. "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock." Matt. 7:24 Barkev S, Trachian, Ph.D. Salem Baptist Church , on Broad Street in Winston-Salem, NC , is my Home Church. I call it Home Church , because my whole life has been centered around this church family. I grew up in the church, got married in the church, raised my children and grand children in the church. I grew closer to God in the preaching and teaching in this church under the sound doctrine of many fine preachers . First and foremost is the Bibical Principles exercised in our church . The God honoring and awe inspiring Word of God taught in every area of ministry. God has blessed our church with ministries of a school, and Camp Merriwood, with missions and missionaries we support. I have confidence in the Pastor , Elders, Deacons and leadership that God has gifted to lead our church , knowing the Truth of God’s Word is being taught and exercised! I invite anyone seeking to know God more fully and willing and ready to study God’s word intently, will be blessed in joining with us . You will be loved! I have been a member of Salem for approximately 45 years. I can truly say that the Word of God is taught clearly and unapologetically. Our church family is warm and very welcoming to those who choose to worship with us. I love the ministry focus at Salem and the impact it has literally around the world. We are seeing some great things happen in our congregation, Christian’s school and Merriwood Christian Camp. To God be the Glory. Me and my family came to Salem 4 years ago. Our son had gotten involved with the youth group. He absolutely loved being there, made great friends, and really liked the leaders, Matt and Sarah. When my wife and I began attending, we were just overwhelmed with how welcome we felt there. We came from a much larger church where we just couldn't get plugged in and it felt very impersonal. Not Salem! We really felt loved. And the biblical based teaching is exactly what we were looking for! The growth that is happening in the place is so much fun to watch. Seeing God be faithful through seasons reminds us to trust in him. My husband is a part of the pastor team at Salem and I can truly say it is a TEAM! They love and care for all of their members and provide countless opportunities to Gather and Grow together.
