What visitors say
Independent Presbyterian Church is one of Savannah’s architectural showpieces, rising over Bull Street with a stately, classical presence that feels both Southern and Old World. The original 1819 church was destroyed in the great fire of 1889, and the present building was completed in 1891 as a faithful reconstruction under architect William Gibbons Preston. Its tall steeple, grand portico, balanced proportions, and refined classical detailing give it the look of a landmark church from a London street, while its setting among Savannah’s live oaks makes it unmistakably local. Long admired as one of the city’s most beautiful sacred buildings, it remains a defining feature of Savannah’s historic skyline. Was very impressed by the personal feel at this historic Church! There were probably more than 500 people there this Sunday morning and we got a personal invitation for sunday lunch by one of the families! Bless them!! We really appreciate it but were disappointed because we had to catch a flight and couldn’t fit it in our schedule, hopefully next time 🙏 Free sanctuary tours on Tuesdays during tourism season. Church volunteers are very kind and excited to share the history and current events of the church. Very beautiful building! Stopped in for a beautiful view and quick tour. Great place for a Presbyterian wedding.
