What visitors say

Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel is a deeply spiritual and peaceful refuge right in the heart of New Orleans. It’s the oldest surviving church building in the city and carries centuries of history within its walls. The moment you step inside, you feel the weight of time, prayer, and reverence. What makes this chapel truly special is the Shrine to St. Jude, where locals and visitors alike come to light candles and leave petitions. The atmosphere is sacred, warm, and welcoming—no matter your background or beliefs. The quiet beauty of the chapel, combined with the powerful sense of hope and devotion, makes it a must-visit spot if you’re looking to reconnect spiritually or just take a break from the energy of the city. Whether you’re Catholic, spiritual, or just appreciate history, this little chapel is one of New Orleans’ best-kept treasures. I am sure to get push back on this one. Never been to a mass where people were on their cell phones the entire time. Families talking constantly during mass. Father spent more time giving shout out to parishioners and clapping than on the homily (I am serious on this no sarcasm). Jazz music does not add to the mass. But is distracting. Bottom line, if you are used to a respectful and reverent mass this is not the place that will live up to that expectation. Found by accident while vacationing in New Orleans. My family was raised Catholic but I was not. But something came over me here. It was the most beautiful experience ever. Stop by the shop, buy a candle and light for a loved one! I feel a little strange rating a Catholic Church Service but Our Lady of Guadalupe is really something special. The Jazz Mass is a real treat, lively, fun and I feel inspirational. The choir is phenomenal and the music is fabulous. We were lucky enough to attend a Mass with several young people receiving their First Communion. I cannot remember a service I have enjoyed more. Our Lady of Guadalupe is a truly inspirational parish and the standing-room only Masses attest to this. We attended the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass but I imagine any of their services would likely be just as great. Jazz mass.... Spiritually uplifting, soul stirring melodically angelic moving mass that had me feeling some type of way. I swear I actually shed tears I was so touched by the service and the sermon on the day that I attended. I am Catholic and this service just hit me in a different way that I have been taught to worship quietly all of my life. It was liberating..don't get me wrong I love the stoic mass that I am used to...I just walked away from this one feeling wrapped up, snuggled, safe. I went to the gift shop, prayed in the grotto, and lit a candle. #loved
