What visitors say
This is a beautiful cathedral. It is lightened airy with a stunning oculus above the altar which has red and yellow sways dropped from the ceiling. It is close to the.Frye Art gallery and both buildings are free to enter and Worth visiting. In a world that can feel overwhelming and isolating, I always find peace in the beauty and majesty of St. James. Both as a place and a people, the Cathedral is warm and welcoming to all. I would encourage believers and non-believers to visit. God has surprised me more than once with community and contentment at the Cathedral. The liturgies are rich and beautiful and the homilies are thought provoker and usually have a call to action "Faith without works is dead" (James 2:26). Shout out to Fathers Ryan and Lazzeroni, they are among the best. Amazing cathedral! Even has an accessible entrance which is hard to find in houses of worship this old. Simply gorgeous. INCREDIBLE experience. We visited Seattle for the first time and one of the things was to go and visit some Cathedrals around the area. This one is above them all let me just say that. The workers/volunteers are all very kind and welcoming, the stained glass is beautiful, and the little rooms throughout the church are wonderful to walk in. And if you walk outside into this little courtyard there is a bookshop. I wish I knew her name but the kindest lady was in there working, she talked to us for about 45 minutes and has been at this church for 50 years! It was an amazing experience and I would love to return to a mass one day in the future! St. James Cathedral is truly one of the most beautiful and welcoming places in Seattle. The church itself is peaceful, stunning, and full of history, but what really stands out is the sense of community and kindness from the people there. I’ve had a very positive experience attending Mass and learning more about the Catholic faith through their programs. The atmosphere is calm, respectful, and uplifting, and the music and architecture make every visit feel meaningful. Whether you are deeply religious, exploring your faith, or just visiting Seattle, St. James Cathedral is absolutely worth experiencing.
